DAY
1: Arrive Dublin Airport/Dublin
Seaports and transfer to accommodation.
Stay 2 nights at Ashbrooke House, Dublin.
Ashbrooke is a beautiful old Georgian country house on 10 acres and beside the Phoenix Park. It is situated 10 minutes from the City Centre and 15 minutes from the International Airport. The House is close to good pubs and has racing nearby. Here it is an ideal location for visiting Dublin City Centre, golfing, and fishing. There is secure car parking, tennis court and walled gardens. The en suite bedrooms have direct dial telephone etc. DAY 3: After breakfast transfer West to Galway. Stay 2 nights at Cregg Castle, Co. Galway.
Here you will find a 17th century castle that is only 10 miles from Galway City and on 80 hectares of wild life preserve. The Castle is an ideal base for touring Connemara, Clare, Mayo & Arran Islands. Cregg has traditional music around the open fire in the "Great Hall", home cooking and a very friendly atmosphere. Tea & coffee is available for free at all times; dinner is at 7pm if required and has a wine licence. Fishing, horse riding and walking is all nearby. Groups and families are welcome and have two family suites with bathrooms available and exclusive use by arrangement. DAY 5: After breakfast and at your leisure transfer north to Sligo. Stay 2 nights at Markree House, Co. Sligo.
Markree is a large and attractive country house and superbly set on 62 acres. It is bordered by the River Unshin and adjacent to Markree Castle. It has delightful accommodation with seclusion and tranquillity assuring a memorable stay. Strictly non-smoking and dogs allowed to stay in stables. Day 7: After breakfast transfer north to Limavady, Co. Londonderry in Northern Ireland. Stay 1 night at Streeve Hill, Co. Londonderry.
Streeve Hill, built by Conolly McCausland in 1730, stands within the demesne of Drenagh. It has a Palladian façade of rose brick and enjoys fine views over parkland to the distant Sperrin Mountains. Recent renovations have combined contemporary comforts with 18th century charm. All bedrooms have private bathrooms. The House is renowned for its gourmet dinners and irresistible breakfasts. It is ideally placed for visits to Downhill, the Giant’s Causeway and Donegal. There are several golf courses nearby, including Castlerock and Royal Portrush. Also available are tennis, riding, shooting and fishing. Day 8: Either transfer to Scotland by Airline from Belfast; or catch a Ferry from Belfast to Liverpool, Isle of Man or Stranraer; or go from Larne to Stanraer & Cairnryan in Scotland. If staying in Ireland transfer south and stay in Ardee, Co. Louth, which takes you back towards Dublin. Stay 2 nights at Red House, Co. Louth.
Red House, a delightful Georgian house, was the home of the politician Chichester Fortescue (Lord Charlingford) and the Countess Waldegrave, a famous hostess. Guests included lions of Victorian society such as Edward Lear. There are 3 bedrooms available to guests, one double room with bath & shower and two twin rooms with adjacent bath and shower. The beautiful landscape of Louth has plenty to offer, especially to sportsmen. Racing, foxhunting, shooting and golf are all available locally. Guests have access to Slane Castle to fish for salmon and trout on the River Boyne. Other attractions are Newgrange, the round tower and crosses at Monasterboice, the ruins of Mellifort and the magnificent scenery of the Cooley peninsula. The House has its own floodlit tennis court, indoor heated swimming pool and sauna (summer months). The elegant rooms overlook parkland which has been well maintained for 200 years. Day 10: Transfer to Dublin International Airport or Ferry Port. Or join another tour. All accommodations are privately owned Country Houses and do not pretend to be hotels. They have a warm friendly atmosphere and give a true insight into Irish life and true Irish hospitality. All accommodations are good quality and bedrooms have private en suite bathrooms (unless otherwise indicated).
